Banbury Town Council manages two cemeteries within the town -
Southam Road Cemetery located within the town on the Southam Road opposite Homebase.
This is our largest cemetery but no longer has space for new burials. However, if space permits, families with existing graves can still proceed with burials or interment of ashes.
There is still space available within the cremated remains area and the columbarium to offer an alternative resting place for ashes.
Hardwick Hill Cemetery is also located on the Southam Road, out of the built-up area heading towards Little Bourton.
This is a modern cemetery and all new burials take place at this cemetery.
Banbury Town Council has started a programme of inspection to determine and identify unsafe memorials and headstones in its cemeteries.
Safety in burial grounds has become a major issue in the UK, with people being killed or injured by falling memorials.
For more information please contact the town hall on 01295 250340.
The burial registers for both cemeteries are kept at Banbury Town Hall. Anyone requiring a family search should contact the town council. The name of the deceased and approximate year of burial are needed for a search to be carried out.
