                  Sunday 3rd October 2010

The Theme for 2010 will be:  ‘Celebrating the Cententary of Tom Rolt, and his lifetime achievements’

Banbury Canal Day has grown from a small provincial event to one that attracts boaters, crafters, traders and visitors from all over the country.

The main thrust of the day has to be the canal itself, with commercial boats booked in and a water taxis to move visitors around the site.   Venturer offers boat trips to those with disabilities and their carers.  Plus, there are other boats to admire, and for the very adventurous the Banbury & District Canoe Club holds a bellboat competition.

The Mill Arts Centre provides a “Living Arts” day, with a free folk concert all day in the General Foods Garden and a falconry display and horse and cart rides in Spiceball Park.  Sovereign Wharf holds demonstrations of rope making and roses & castles painting and a special Pirate bouncy castle.

Compton Road car park becomes home to the Hook Norton beer tent, traditional dance teams, artists, workshops and activities, a steam display from the Banbury Steam Society, lots of interesting food and drink outlets and trade stalls.  Tooley’s boatyard displays historic engines and boats and a chance to watch a blacksmith at work and admire the chandlery on sale.

Stall holders representing local clubs and charities are along the canalside promoting their organisation, with the bellboat competition taking place just below the Mill footbridge.   In addition there is plenty to do in Banbury Museum and to complete the day a Pirate Parade to show off the banners, headwear and costumes made by the children in the various workshops is held along the canalside.
