Banbury’s only community garden is a little oasis of green adjacent to People’s Park in Banbury. Easily accessible on foot from the town centre, the park is used by many people, both as a through route and as a place for recreation. The Community Garden was originally formed from the old nursery that supplied the town with all its municipal planting. Over recent years the garden has fallen into decline and disuse, becoming very overgrown, unkempt and unloved. It wasn’t until September 2005 when the town council appointed a third Park Ranger with a horticultural background that things have started to happen in the garden.

In November 2006 the People's Park Community Garden was successfully awarded a grant for £2,500, this was granted following an application made to Central Networks Safer Environment Fund
The Community Garden has now benefited from new pathways, paved areas and raised stone planters. Those who will benefit will be volunteers who offer their time and help in forging ahead with the refurbishment, many of whom are from local organisations with varied disabilities.

In September 2006 Banbury Town Council offered members of the public summer bedding that was being removed from the many floral displays that had adorned Banbury throughout the summer. This experiment turned into an overwhelming success, an allocated 5 hour slot saw the plants disappear within 2 hours. This environmental recycling will now take place after the summer and spring bedding seasons.
