At a packed Town Hall, the Town Mayor of Banbury, Cllr Kieron Mallon, himself a former Irish Guard, presented veterans badges to many service persons from the Banbury area.
To qualify men and women had to serve before December 1984.
Cllr Mallon said “This was a surprise for me as I joined up in October 1984 and thought I was too young to be a veteran for anything!
In attendance were the Royal Logistics Corps, Kineton, The queens own Oxfordshire Hussars, Banbury Air and Sea Cadets, Red Cross and the British Legion, who all had displays for viewing in the Hall.
Cllr Mallon said “This veterans badge is a way of recognising men and women who have given so much service of the Crown, especially those who served in many peace keeping roles the force had undertaken since the end of World War 2.
The many veterans who attended enjoyed a good social evening amongst friends old and new.
