Cemeteries
Banbury Town Council manages two cemeteries within the town of Banbury.
Southam Road Cemetery is the original cemetery located in Southam Road, behind Nursery Lane. This is the largest cemetery and no longer has space for new burials. Families who own graves can still proceed with burials, if space permits, or with the interment of ashes.
In 2003, the Council opened a new cremated remains (ashes) burial section, providing up to 250 new ashes burial places, and also a columbarium has been installed in this section to offer an alternative for ashes.
Hardwick Hill Cemetery is also located on the Southam Road, heading out towards Little Bourton. All new burials take place at the new cemetery.
Memorial Stability
Banbury Town Council have commenced a memorial stabilty programme of inspection to determine and identify unsafe memorials within its cemeteries. Safety in burial grounds has become a major issue, with people being killed or injured by falling memorials over the years in the UK. If you require further information please call the Town Hall on 01295 250340.
Burial Registers
All the burial registers are kept at Banbury Town Hall for both cemeteries. If you require a family search, please contact us with the following information - name of deceased and approximate year of burial.
