Princess Diana Park is now the proud owner of two exciting new play areas and wheeled sports facility, all the first of their kind in the Town. The bespoke play areas was funded courtesy of Banbury Town Council, Cherwell District Council and an much welcomed grant from Oxfordshire County Council Playbuilder Scheme. This scheme allows children to use play space for adventure and challenge, the natural way. The concrete wheeled sports facility has been a wonderful addition to the park and has been given the thumbs up from all its wheeled sports users.
Brethertons Solictitors contributed 5 large trees to finish the project and were on hand to undertake the planting.
2009 - People's Park Play Area & Wheeled Sports Project
The newly refurbished play area in People’s Park was officially opened In January 2010 by the Mayor of Banbury, Councillor Tina Wren. The Friends of People’s Park also attended the opening.
Landscaping work on installing the play area was completed just before Christmas and the Town Council decided to open the play area so that park users and residents could take advantage of it over the holidays. There are still some areas in the play area which have been fenced off for the time being so that the landscaping can become established but this is only a temporary thing and the areas will be opened as soon as this has occurred. The Town Council has been working with Cherwell District Council on ways in which the new facilities can be used to encourage people to become fitter. With this in mind some coaching sessions will be taking place once the nights get lighter.
Councillor Colin Clarke, Chairman of the General Services Committee, “ We are delighted to officially open the play area. This culminates the final phase of works in the park. With the refurbished tennis courts, the youth terrace, the keep fit area and now the play area this really makes such a difference to the park”
