Banbury Show 2016

Rain failed to dampen the spirits of the thousands of people who enjoyed an action-packed Banbury and District Show on Sunday.

Crowd numbers were boosted in the afternoon when the sun appeared and organisers Banbury Town Council said the event was a massive success despite the wet morning.

In the arena, the Xtreme Stunt Team, the Coventry Drum Corps and the Banbury Cross Flyball Club entertained spectators – while on stage in the second field groups of young dancers and the Brackley Brass Band attracted plenty of attention.

A funfair, charity stalls, food and drink sellers and other sideshows did good business and a giant TV screen relayed The Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations live from London.

Mayor Gordon Ross said: “Everyone knows there is plenty to do and see at the Banbury and District Show and they come out even when the weather is bad.

“It was great to see so many people smiling in the rain.”

Cllr Colin Clarke, chairman of the council’s general services committee, added: “A great deal of hard work goes into the planning and organisation of the show and it’s so pleasing to see, despite the poor weather conditions, so many people having a good time.”
