Emergency Services Day - September 2023

Emergency Services Day

On Saturday, September 2nd, from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Banbury Town Council and Thames Valley Police joined forces to create an unforgettable day at Spiceball Park.

The occasion, known as Emergency Services Day or 999 Day, holds national recognition and receives support from prominent figures, including HM The King, the Prime Minister, and the First Ministers of Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Founded by Tom Scholes-Fogg, a serving police officer, this day is dedicated to honouring our 999 heroes, expressing gratitude for their unwavering dedication and commitment.

Beyond the enjoyment, the event aimed to raise awareness, promote responsible use of emergency services, and share basic lifesaving skills with the community. Attendees had the opportunity to meet representatives from Police, Fire, Search and Rescue, and Ambulance Services, gaining insights into the essential work they perform.

The event allowed visitors to step into the world of emergency services, learning about their vital work. Thames Valley Police, Oxfordshire Search and Rescue, Highways England, and St John Ambulance were present, offering insights and showcasing their vehicles and equipment. The day wasn't just about education; it also provided entertainment, featuring a mini fairground, an ice cream van, and free face painting to ensure the little ones had an absolute blast.

999 Day served as a meaningful opportunity to support the heroic men and women of the emergency services and NHS.
