Town Mayor's Funday

About Town Mayor's Funday 2024

Banbury's annual Town Mayor's Funday took place in People's Park on Sunday 14th of July 2024. It was a highly popular family event, with free entry and a wide range of attractions, from ferret racing to wall climbing, and even a land train taking guests around the park on a predetermined route. There was also food, drink, and a variety of performances, from local musical talent to a thrilling stunt show from Dangerous Steve.

These free attractions included axe-throwing, crazy golf, and rock climbing. Meanwhile, animal lovers could enjoy the energetic ferrets at the ferret racing stall as well as the highly entertaining Fun Dog Show, a partnership between Banbury Town Council and local charity Dogs for Good. Watching the dog show was also free of charge, and dog owners could enter their dog for a small entry fee, with winning pooches receiving a number of tasty treats.

The Town Mayor – Labour Councillor for Ruscote Mark Cherry – was present throughout the day to greet Banbury residents and get involved with the day’s proceedings. Councillor Cherry said, “The Banbury Town Mayor Fun Day was fun, glad the people of Banbury enjoyed it, the weather was fantastic. Special thanks to town council staff and store organisers who made the event possible.”

Meanwhile, one of the most popular attractions was Lennie the Land Train, a locomotive without the need for rails that took guests around the perimeter of the park, giving guests a relaxing ride and tranquil views. Particularly popular with both the young and the young-at-heart, Lennie was present throughout the day, and was also the Mayor’s method of transport as he approached the arena.

Extra, paid activities included go-karts, funfair rides, and a wide variety of food and drink vendors. Families had the option to pay for these extra thrills, but there was plenty to do without spending a penny, ensuring that all Banbury residents were able to enjoy an exciting and memorable day out.
