Sports Facilities Available

Banbury Town Council has responded to concerns about a lack of sports facilities.
Social media subscribers have claimed there is a shortage of football pitches in Banbury, and a recent Cherwell District Council study into sports provision concluded there was a lack of facilities in the town for adult and youth football teams.
But the town council says it has a number of soccer pitches for hire that are not fully booked – and is looking to attract more local teams.
The council says it has significant space for teams of all age groups.
It has full-size pitches at Moorfields Park, Easington Rec, Horton View, Hanwell Fields and Chandos Close – and all sites except Chandos also have mini-pitches for under-16s.
Pitches can be hired for the season or for one-off matches – with or without clubhouses with showers.
Cllr Martin Phillips, chairman of the council’s general services committee, said: “We have superb facilities with everything football teams need. We have pitches for adult and junior sides and there are 50% discounts for under-18s.
“We will be installing defibrillators at all five sportsgrounds as a safety measure.
“Anyone interested should contact the town council.”
