Conservatives retained overall control of Banbury Town Council despite losing a seat to Labour in Thursday’s local elections.
One seat on the town council in Calthorpe South ward was contested in a by-election brought about by the recent resignation of a Conservative member due to a change of employment.
The result followed the national trend with Labour candidate Sian Frances Tohill-Martin claiming victory with 577 votes. Ian Harwood (Conservative) polled 468 votes and Sophie Parker-Manuel (Liberal Democrat) received 180 votes.
The Conservatives now hold 12 seats, Labour 9, and one Independent.
The turn-out was 32.1%.
