Mayor Joins Charity Walk

Town Mayor Fiaz Ahmed was a surprise late entry in the Katharine House Hospice moonlight charity walk on Saturday.
Cllr Ahmed drove to the start of the event to drop off a friend and offer his support but was persuaded to take part by other walkers.
He said: “It was a movie-themed fancy-dress occasion so I went home, put on my walking shoes – and dressed up as a sheikh. I was like a character from Lawrence of Arabia.
“I joined the ten-mile walk and really enjoyed the event and the comradeship.”
Andy Green, of Banbury FM radio, said: “Cllr Ahmed dropped someone off and came in to see what was going on.
“I said he should join in and other people said the same. He rushed home, changed into costume and arrived back in just as the gates opened and everyone started walking.”
The event started at Easington Sports Football Club on Saturday at 7pm.
It is an annual walk that raises around £50,000 every year for the Adderbury-based hospice. Around 400 people took part this year and Cllr Ahmed said: “It was a great atmosphere and I hope it was a record-breaker for money raised.
“The hospice does a remarkable job and deserves great support.”
