Seasonal Full Time Grounds Maintenance/Cemetery Operative

£9.27 - £10.86 dependant on experience & qualifications
6 Month Contract

 

40 hours per week (8am-4.30pm with 30 minute lunch)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard working person to join our cemeteries and parks team. Ideally you will have experience in the construction industry in using a mechanical excavator or as labourer, ground worker or gardener and be willing to learn to use such machinery. You must possess a full driver’s licence (preferably to Category C1 + E) as you will be required to travel between our sites and move equipment and plant between the sites.

Duties include ground maintenance of the Council’s cemeteries and premier park, grass cutting and general horticultural duties to ensure a high standard is maintained. Other duties include assisting the cemeteries team with measuring and marking out grave spaces, digging and preparing graves using either mechanical equipment or by hand (as required) and keeping graves tidy.

The successful applicant will be hardworking, enthusiastic, willing to learn and a good team player and must be prepared to work outdoors in all weathers and in challenging conditions. Working with other funeral and cemetery staff is vital to the role, as is good communication skills and a caring and compassionate nature for dealing with bereaved relatives and the general public.
